RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

All of our football players are student-athletes. Student always comes first. Playing this sport is a privilege, not a right.

We hold our athletes to a high expectations, not only on the field but in the classroom.

Our athletes represent themselves, their families, and their team in everything they do.

Rules:

  • Don't do anything to embarrass family, team or school

  • No blatant personal fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct - Results in reminders at practice and potentially a suspension.

  • Be a model student - detention will result in a reminder. ISS first offense is extra conditioning, second offense is extra conditioning and one game suspension, third offense results in removal from team.

  • Do not miss practice unless a coach is told before practice - If an athlete misses practice he/she needs to provide a doctors note to the following practice. Without a doctor's note the missed practice is considered unexcused. Any unexcused practice results in one quarter suspension for each practice missed.

  • Treat others with respect

  • Be on time

  • Stay eligible - 2 F's = can't play. 1 F = can't play 1/2 of the game. 2 D's count as 1 F.

  • Report any injuries to a coach or trainer BEFORE going home. - When injured, act as part of the team - be at practice, help the coaches, encourage the team.

  • Be selfless - lying, cheating, stealing, poor attendance, drug and alcohol abuse, pouting, and chronic tardiness are selfish acts and will not be tolerated.

  • Be mature - not getting along with teammates, poor work habits, and poor character traits (at practice, work, or school) are a sign of immaturity and will not be tolerated.

  • Camera phones, cameras, and camcorders are not to be used in the locker room.

Attitude in the Classroom

What we expect from our athletes in the classroom

In the classroom we expect our athletes to:

  •  Be leaders - always do the right thing even if it's not the "cool" thing to do.

  • Be respectful - respecting the teachers and respecting their peers.

  • Do their best - do their best on every activity and assignment no matter what. If they aren't trying, they aren't learning.

Attitude on the Field

What we expect from out athletes on the field

On the field we expect our athletes to:

  • Do their best - give 100% every rep, every play

  • Be coachable - If a coach tells you to do something, try your best to get it done. Be able to make adjustments and change things when asked.

  • Be a good teammate - encourage your teammates. Be there for your teammates when they need help.

Expectation for Parents

What we expect from our parents

Throughout the season we have certain expectations for our parents. Players look up to their parents and are easily influenced by what you say.

  • Don't badmouth any players - don't talk about how bad any other players are to your athlete or to other parents.

  • Don't badmouth coaches - don't talk bad about the coaches to your athlete. Be supportive.

  • Don't coach from the stands - coaches have a reason for putting players in certain positions or for calling certain plays. If you tell a player something we aren't coaching then they aren't doing it right.

  • If there is an issue, follow the lines of communication - We want to teach players to be able to advocate for themselves and to have a voice.

  1.  If there is an issue, have the athlete communicate to the coach

  2. If the issue continues, parent can schedule a time to talk to the coach.

  3. If the issue continues, we set up a time to meet with player, parent, coach, and administrator.

  • Coaches will not talk about the game with parents or players for 24 hours. If there are comments or issues that you wish to discuss do not come up to the coaching staff after the game, wait until after the following day's practice.

Equipment.jpg

Equipment

Players are responsible for their equipment at all times.

Players will be checked out equipment at the beginning of the season and will be responsible for this equipment throughout the whole season.

Players will be issued:

  • A helmet

  • Shoulder pads

  • A girdle with thigh, hip, and tail pads

  • Knee pads

  • Practice pants

  • Practice jersey

  • Game pants

  • Game jersey

  • Football belt

Players are responsible for all of their equipment. If equipment is lost there will either be extra conditioning (for small equipment) or a fine placed on that athlete's account (for big equipment).

Game Day Equipment consists of:

- Helmet

- Shoulder Pads

- Game Jersey

- Game Pants

- Mouth Piece

- Girdle

- Belt

- Knee Pads

- Crew Socks

If a player is missing ANY piece of equipment on game day, they will not be able to play in the game.

Coaches will never talk about another player to players or parents. Parents and players need to understand that middle schools sports are no longer recreation league where everyone gets the same playing time. Playing time is earned.

WHAT DOES GAME DAY LOOK LIKE?

Our routine for game day

On game days there will be a routine players will follow every game day for the season.

  • On the day of the game, athletes will wear their game jersey tucked into their pants. We want our athletes to take pride in their team and look respectable.

  • After school, students will go into the cafeteria and have a short study hall session.

  • First and Calvary will bring over food and provide a pregame meal for all of our players, coaches and cheerleaders.

  • At 4:00 athletes will begin getting dressed for the football game.

  • Around 4:30 a bus will take the 7th grade team and two coaches to the field and drop them off.

  • After 7th grade is dropped off, the bus will return to the school to pick up the 8th grade team and remaining coaches.

  • The first game of the night will be the 7th grade game starting at 5:30 pm followed directly by the 8th grade game.

  • Both 7th and 8th grade athletes will remain on the sideline for both games and can be signed out after the 8th grade game is over. Athletes will not be allowed to walk around and talk to people in the stands during the game. They will be focused on the game and support their teammates.

  • Parents/Guardians that are listed on the contact information for the player will be able to sign out at the game. We will not sign out players to someone that is not on the contact list.

  • After players have been signed out, the bus will take the remaining players and coaches back to Jarrett for parents to pick up. - Players will make phone calls for their rides on the bus ride back to Jarrett.

  • If parents are not at Jarrett about 30 minutes after the bus drops off students a coach will call school police to be with the athlete.
